Founders’ Competition

Entrance
All members wishing to enter the competition must submit their entries on the official 1995 entry form. This form must be sent, together with the entrance fee of £50, to the club steward, to arrive by Midday on Friday 19 May 1995.

Seeding
16 seeds will be nominated, who, if they win their heats, will not meet until the third round. Seedings will be made by a seeding committee comprising:

•        the chairman
•        the tournament organiser and
•        the club steward

In general seedings will be based on last year’s tournament results, but the seeding committee has absolute discretion to adjust seedings to allow for new members and obvious changes in form as indicated by recent results.

Rounds of the Competition
With the exception of the seeds, first, second and third round heats will each have six competitors drawn at random. Winners of first round heats will go through to the second round, along with the seven highest scoring losers (125 second round places).  Winners of second round will go through, along with two highest scoring losers (24 third round places). Winners of third round go into final (4 places).

Locations
Round one heats will be a single event held at the following locations in the UK, every weekend from Sat 10/6/95 to Sat 7/10/95:

  • Exmoor
  • Dartmoor
  • Saddleworth
  • New Forest
  • Sherwood Forest
  • Forest of Dean

Competitors should state on the entry form their first and second choices for both location and date.

Round two heats will be a single overnight event held at the following locations in the UK, every weekend from Sat  14/10/95 to Sat 11/11/95:

  • Exmoor
  • Dartmoor
  • Saddleworth
  • New Forest
  • Sherwood Forest
  • Forest of Dean

Competitors should state on the entry form their first and second choices for both location and date.

Semi-Final heats will all be held in the Cairngorms. There will be two events held over a weekend  from Sat 18/11/95 to Sat 15/12/95.  The Final will be held on our new course in Norway. There will be four overnight rounds held on 18, 20, 22 and 24 Feb 1996.

Notification
The first round draw will be notified in writing to the address given on the entrance form. Changes in address must be notified to the steward in writing to arrive before the change becomes effective. The Adventure Club cannot accept responsibility for notifications going astray as a result of this rule not being adhered to. All winners and qualifying losers will be notified by the steward of their next round draw location. The fastest non-qualifiers will also be notified and invited to attend in case any competitor fails to appear. All competitors must arrive at least half an hour before the scheduled briefing, which counts as the start of the round. Any competitor failing to report to the steward in time will be scratched and his/her place offered to any non qualifier who has been invited to attend.

Scoring
All rounds will be scored in hours to the nearest 1/100 th of an hour (36secs). Penalties for hits will be:

  • minor hits   0.5 hours each
  • major hits   1.0 hours each
  • severe hits  5.0 hours each

First Round – only minor hits will be possible
Second Round – major and minor hits possible
Semi-Final – all hits possible
Final – booby traps introduced

Special Rules for the Final
Booby trap hits can be in any of the minor/major and severe categories. The cable car zone is out of bounds. Anybody straying into that zone is liable to be shot at by the steward, who will patrol it from the cable car. Beware he is armed with a telescopic rifle! A 1-hour deduction will be awarded to the first person to cross into the following zones:

  • Mid
  • Sparse
  • Snow
  • Home

The Steward will notify competitors when the first competitor has crossed into each zone. The notification will not give the competitor’s name only the fact that he or she has crossed the line. All rounds will start at 1800. Competitors may not cross into the rocky zone before 0600 (penalty 5 hours). Competitors may cross back into previous zones without penalty.  No weapons may be used in either the Home or Snow zones (penalty 5 hours per zone per competitor hit).
